MEET THE FESTIVAL JURY PANEL
The film jury panel is coming together in a big way. The festival strives to get the best films of the festival in front of Hollywood industry professionals who not only make their living working in film, but thrive in it. The panel will consist of high caliber movie business professionals from both in front of and behind the camera. They have made a career out of being on the leading edge of creativity and now they are eager to take the pulse of indie filmmaking’s forward guard.
The panel is developing into a powerhouse of Hollywood minds! Here are the ones we are allowed to officially announce at this point.

FESTIVAL JUDGE – Tom Waits
TOM WAITS is a two-time Grammy® Award-winner and Academy Award®-nominated singer/songwriter/musician/actor and in 2010 was inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. In a career that spans over 4 decades, Waits has recorded over 21 albums including his latest critically lauded Bad As Me, as well as contributing to countless soundtracks. Waits has also appeared as an actor in over 25 films including: Rumble Fish, Short Cuts, Down By Law, Ironweed, Coffee & Cigarettes, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and the upcoming Seven Psychopaths, among many others. (Please note: Mr. Waits will not be present at the festival itself but will be judging remotely from DVD).
FESTIVAL JUDGE – Kathleen Brennan
KATHLEEN BRENNAN is an American songwriter, record producer, artist, writer and longtime collaborator with her husband Tom Waits. She has worked in both cinema and theatre . Songs she has written with Waits have been heard in numerous films, including “Dead Man Walking “Shrek” and “Pollock.” Together they have written music and songs for several of Robert Wilson’s avant garde theater productions. Waits and Brennan wrote the book and music for Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater production of “Frank’s Wild Years.” The Healdsburg International Short Film Festival is fortunate to have such talent and experience on the jury panel. (Please note: Ms. Brennan will not be present at the festival itself but will be judging remotely from DVD).
FESTIVAL JUDGE – Ed Begley, Jr.
Ed Begley, Jr.
Mr. Begley first came to audiences’ attention for his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series, “St. Elsewhere,” for which he received six Emmy nominations. Since then Begley has moved easily between feature, television and theatre projects in more than 200 appearances.
Ed has appeared in “Pineapple Express”, as well as many Christopher Guest films, including “A Mighty Wind”, “Best In Show,” and For Your Consideration”.
Other feature film credits include “Batman Forever”, “The Accidental Tourist” and “The In-Laws.”
On television, Begley has appeared in “Gary Unmarried,” “Hannah Montana,” “Monk,” “Suite Life On Deck,” “Recount” with Kevin Spacey, “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” “Six Feet Under”, “Arrested Development”, and “Boston Legal.”
Ed has directed several episodes of the hit classic show “NYPD Blue” as well as a play that he wrote called “Cesar and Ruben” that won a Nos Otros Award and four Valley Theater League Awards.
FESTIVAL JUDGE – Jon Shapiro
Jon Shapiro is a renowned Digital 3D Pioneer & experienced Entertainment Industry Executive, as well as a two time Emmy-winning Motion Picture, Television, and Music Producer. He has also been involved in the conception, development, and production of mainstream entertainment in virtually every professional music, film or TV medium including animation, digital 3D, HDTV, 35mm and IMAX 15p/70mm film, and 5.1 Direct Stream Digital surround audio.
After producing mainstream family entertainment such as the feature film “Richie Rich” and the two time Emmy-winning “Curious George” TV & Movie franchise, Mr. Shapiro has for a decade played a leadership role in the establishment and growth of next-generation digital Stereoscopic 3D (S3D) movies and TV. He is a Co-Founder of 3ality Digital, the world’s preeminent digital 3D live-action technology and production company. Since its inception in 2006, 3ality Digital (now 3ality Technica, after merging with Element Technica in 2011) has developed and delivered technical and creative solutions for 3D filmed and live broadcast entertainment — from feature films such as the new upcoming “Amazing Spider Man” and Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” movies, to commercials, live sporting events, concerts and TV shows for networks including NBC, DirecTV’s n3D and Sky 3D. Mr. Shapiro was Producer of the acclaimed motion picture, “U2 3D”, the first ever live-action film produced & exhibited in digital 3D.
He is also a Former Board Member and Chair of the Content Creation Committee for the 3D@Home Consortium which oversees an industry-wide effort to speed the commercialization of 3D into homes worldwide and provide the best possible viewing experience by facilitating the development of standards, roadmaps and education for the entire 3D industry – from content, hardware and software providers to consumers.
FESTIVAL JUDGE – Jack McGee
Jack starred in the critically acclaimed film “The Fighter,” opposite Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, in “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt and “New Year’s Eve,” directed by Garry Marshall. He will next be seen in “Gangster Squad” starring Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone in October 2012.
Jack’s most notable television role has been as Chief Jerry Reilly on FX’s firefighter drama, “Rescue Me.” He also recurred as Hickey in the Spike TV series, “Players” and has recently guest starred on such TV series as “Drop Dead Diva,” “Rizzoli & Isles,” “CSI: Miami,” “Criminal Minds,” CSY: NY,” and “Castle.” Additionally, Jack appeared in the Tom Tykwer action thriller “The International” alongside CLive Owen and Naomi Watts and “Father of Invention” with Kevin Spacey.
Jack is currently starring as Capt. Michael Sutton on USA Network’s original series, “Common Law” opposed Michael Ealy, Warren Kole and Sonya Walger.
